Changelog

New features and changes in Rflect, newest first. Lecturers see the same updates in the app.

Health boundaries for AI feedback

Go Deeper supports reflection on everyday feelings, needs, values, relationships and personal growth without probing or analyzing health disclosures. The boundary also applies to custom Go Deeper templates. Learning-goal suggestions and program insights stay focused on learning. Program insights are instructed to exclude health information from themes and quotes, and no longer substitute an unreviewed answer when the AI omits a quote. Everyday study stress, motivation and confidence remain in scope.

Follow learning outcome progress across your class

A Personal Learning Goals Assessment now shows its stages on a timeline: pre-assessment, check-ins and post-assessment. Select a stage to work on it directly, and use + in the timeline to add a check-in.

Class results have their own Learning Outcome Progress tab under Students. It charts the class average for each learning outcome at each stage, with one expandable row per student. Choose a group in the left rail to narrow the list, or open the tab from the assessment with View results.

A new navigation for your students

Students now move through Rflect with a sidebar on a computer and a tab bar at the bottom of their phone. The main sections are Exercises, Program, Your Goals and Assessments. Assessments appears once a student has assessment results in the program.

The program description, writing statistics, learning goals and assessment results now live in these sections instead of the Profile, which keeps Badges and Actions. Students find Settings, Support and the program switcher in their account menu.

Use Rflect in Spanish

You and your students can now use Rflect in Spanish, whatever your email address. Choose Spanish under Interface Language in your settings. Students choose Español under Interface language in their own settings.

Your choice is saved to your account. Program content stays in the language you wrote it in.

Manage everyone on one Members & Groups page

Participants, people and groups now share one Members & Groups page with tabs for Students, Lecturers, Invitations and Groups. From a person's menu you can edit their groups, remove them from a group or, as a program manager, remove them from the program.

Lecturers who teach selected groups see the people in their own groups. Program managers can add several students to a group at once and create, rename or delete groups.

Reach every student with All students

Every enrolled student now belongs to All students, and named groups are extra memberships on top. Choose All students as a topic's audience to reach the whole program, including students in no named group.

Program managers teach every group automatically. Invitations and join links always place people in groups, with All students standing in for the whole program.

Teach the Rflect TA about your program

Program settings have a new Rflect TA tab where program managers curate what the TA knows about a program. Add Knowledge notes for facts and conventions the TA should always know, and Files such as a module handbook or marking guide that it can work with when a question calls for it.

Every lecturer in the program benefits in every chat, from the next message on. You can also manage notes and files from a TA chat, which asks for your confirmation first. Students never see program context.

Describe your program to students

As a program manager, you can now add a description to your program under Settings > Program. Students see it on the About this program page in Rflect.

The Rflect TA reads the description too, so every conversation in the program starts knowing what the program is about. Descriptions can be up to 2000 characters.

Introduce your students to Rflect

You can help your students get started with the new Welcome to Rflect topic. It combines introductory videos, information and reflection questions in a guided sequence.

When you create or copy a program, the topic is added automatically and scheduled from the program's start date for four weeks. For an existing program, you can add it from the topic catalog if it is not already present. You can adjust its schedule or remove it, while its introductory content stays consistent.

Keep your LMS roster up to date overnight

Your connected LMS courses sync with Rflect every day. New participants are added automatically. As a program manager, you receive an email when an overnight sync adds participants or flags someone for removal, with a link to your program’s Integrations page. Unchanged rosters do not send an email.

Nobody is removed automatically, including when you use Sync yourself. You review proposed removals and choose whether to remove or keep each person. Programs connected to more than one LMS course sync additions but do not flag removals.

You can turn daily sync off for each connection and still sync manually whenever you need it. You can also turn roster-change emails off in your notification settings.

Preserve topic content after students start

Once a topic starts or records participation, its content, audience and start time are locked. You can still update its deadline and marking settings, but you cannot delete or unschedule it, replace its questions or restore an earlier version. Reopening a student's submission does not unlock the content.

Use Duplicate when you want a fresh run with different content. The copy is editable and starts without the original participation or completion records, keeping earlier student work tied to the questions it answered.

Manage program access through groups

As a program manager, you can use People & access to add, move or remove people from groups, with a preview before you save. Managing a program and teaching its content are now separate: lecturers and students need membership in a topic's audience group to access it. Removing someone's last group removes their content access while keeping their program enrollment.

Programs start with a default group, so you only see grouping controls when you introduce named groups. Topics always have an explicit group audience, and question replies go to one group instead of the whole program. This makes it clearer who can see each topic and conversation.

Connect an LMS that cannot register itself

Organisation admins can now connect a learning platform by hand when it does not support LTI Dynamic Registration. On the Integrations page, Set up manually creates the registration and shows the login, launch and JWKS URLs plus every setting the platform needs, each one copyable, with both the Moodle and the Canvas spelling of each field. Once the platform has issued its issuer, client id and endpoints, save them under Save platform details; you can correct them later without redoing the setup in the platform. All connected platforms now appear in one list with a badge showing how each was registered, and a manual registration that still lacks its platform details is marked Needs configuration.

Until now only platforms that could drive the automatic registration handshake could be connected at all.

See your weekly Rflect TA usage

The Rflect TA now shows how much of your weekly AI allowance you have used. Open the gauge in the chat status bar, or the usage entry in the full-screen conversation list, to see your spend against the limit and when it renews. A warning appears above the composer once you reach 80% of the limit, and tells you when the limit is reached.

Usage now counts per calendar week, from Monday to Monday in Swiss time, instead of a rolling seven days, so the reset moment is the same for everyone.

Personal learning goals in German or Spanish

Set the language picker to German or Spanish when you add a Personal Learning Goals assessment or a Learning Goals topic, and everything it seeds is created in that language: the assessment's title and description, the pre-assessment, check-in and post-assessment stages, and every question template. Stages you add later and copies of the assessment keep the language you picked.

Until now this content was always created in English, whichever language your students work in.

Reply to one group or the whole program on a question

When you reply to a question, the composer now shows who will see the reply: Reply to Group A or Reply to entire program. A topic scheduled for several groups can hold a separate reply for each group, and a reply keeps its audience even if you switch the group filter while writing it. Students see the replies addressed to their group or to the whole program, and lecturers who can see a student's answer can also read a colleague's conversation on it.

Until now a question on a shared topic held a single reply thread for everyone, so a group-specific reply reached every group. Group lecturers who only see their own group reply to that group.

Get a browser notification when the Rflect TA is done

Longer analyses run in the background. The TA now offers to send you a browser notification when a long-running analysis finishes or when it needs your input, so you can switch to another tab or program in the meantime. Enable it from the banner above the TA composer; you can dismiss the banner if you prefer to check back yourself.

Notifications only appear while you are away from the conversation, so a result you are already watching does not ping you twice.

Extend a topic deadline through the Rflect TA

You can now ask the Rflect TA to extend the deadline of a topic that has already started, for example "give the reflection on week 3 until Friday". The TA shows the new deadline on an approval card, together with whether students who have not finished yet will be told about it, and the change only happens once you approve it. Deadlines cannot be moved before the topic's start.

This is the same extension you would do from the topic settings, without leaving the conversation.

Schedule one topic for several groups

A topic's audience is now a list of groups instead of a single group. Open the audience picker on a topic, tick the groups it should reach, and the same content and schedule apply to all of them. Leaving every group unticked keeps the topic program-wide, which is now the top row of the same list. Students in any selected group see the topic, peer coaching and peer assessment pair students within the shared audience, and content or schedule edits apply to every selected group at once.

Until now the same topic had to be duplicated per group, and every later edit had to be repeated on each copy. Group lecturers who only see their own group still schedule for that group alone.

Filters and effort ratings on peer coaching topics

Peer coaching topics now show the effort rating next to each student and the topic averages behind the completion flyout. The topic header gains the completion, group, student, effort level and question filters you already use on reflection topics, and your group, student and completion picks stay in the URL so a filtered view can be reopened or shared.

This brings peer coaching in line with the other topic types: you can find the students who need attention without reading through the whole list.

Review account deletion by organisation

You can request account deletion from Settings and follow each organisation's decision. Organisation admins can review the affected data, approve or decline their organisation's part, and initiate a request for a member.

Each approved organisation's personal data is erased independently. A later cancellation or decline cannot restore data already erased. Shared teaching materials are retained without the deleted person's attribution, and the account is removed once every organisation's part has been erased.

One Programs screen for your organisation

Your organisation's Programs screen brings your own programs and, for admins, all organisation programs into one place. Search and filter active, archived or deleted programs within the scope you can access.

Archiving changes your own view. Deleting removes a program for the whole organisation, and the confirmation explains that difference before you act.

Manage your organisation's people in one place

As an organisation admin, you can search your members and invitations on the People screen, change admin access, manage permission to create programs, and resend or withdraw invitations.

The screen explains what prevents a member from being removed, and asks you to confirm before a change removes your own access.

Review and restore earlier topic content

You can open a topic's version history, inspect an earlier version and restore its content when the restore is safe. You can also ask Rflect TA to restore a topic version and review the change before approving it.

This gives you a way back after an unwanted edit while protecting student answers from incompatible changes.

An email when your account is used on a new device

When your account is signed in to from a device it has never used before, you receive an email about it. If that login was you, there is nothing to do. If it was not, the email tells you to change your password right away.

The first device you sign in from after this update is remembered silently as your starting point; alerts begin from the next unfamiliar device. This protects lecturers and students alike, and it works even when someone has your correct password.

See when an invitation cannot be delivered

The participants page now marks an invitation as undeliverable when the email address permanently rejects mail, for example after a typo or a closed mailbox, together with the reason. Before, these invitations stayed on "Invited" forever even though the email never arrived.

The fix is usually to correct the address and send a fresh invitation.

Assessment charts side by side

Assessment statistics now show the spider chart and the bar chart together instead of making you switch between them. Competences without any scores no longer appear as empty filler bars, and scores are shown with two decimals, so small shifts between pre- and post-assessment become visible.

Hand-ins are final until reopened

When a student marks a topic as completed, their answers are now locked on the server, not just in the app. Nothing can change behind a hand-in anymore, so the reflections, statistics and AI summaries you see always match what was actually submitted.

Students who want to revise see a notice on the topic and can reopen it themselves in one click, as long as the deadline and your program settings allow it. Reopening clears the AI marking summary, and it is rebuilt when the student hands in again, so you never read a summary of content that changed afterwards.

What's New shows you what is actually new

This popup now runs as a timeline grouped by month, and entries you haven't seen yet carry a purple dot, so you can tell at a glance where you left off.

It's the same signal as the dot on the bell in the header: open the popup and the entries are marked as read.

One account can be student and lecturer

Roles now live on the program, not the account. Someone who studies in one program can be invited to lecture in another with the same account and email address, with no second registration.

When a student accepts their first lecturer invitation, they are asked for the institutional consent lecturers give at signup.

See what an effort rating is based on

The effort rating on a student now opens into a criteria view that explains how the rating is calculated and what each level means.

This makes it easier to interpret a rating before acting on it, and to explain it to students.

Anonymous questions no longer accept attachments

A file can reveal who wrote an answer: the filename and the document's own metadata often carry the author's name, which would undo the anonymity of the answer it hangs off. Questions with an anonymous sharing type therefore no longer accept attachments.

The question form shows a notice the moment you select an anonymous sharing type, and students simply don't see an upload option on those questions.

Students can attach PDFs to their answers

Students can now upload PDF files as answer attachments, alongside the existing image support. Both you and your students can open a PDF in an inline preview instead of downloading it, and attachments now show their original filename.

Useful for reflections that build on a worksheet, a report, or any document the student produced elsewhere.

Program copies no longer fail on retired catalog competences

Copying a program that used a competence since retired from the catalog previously failed. The copy now succeeds: the retired competence is carried over as a custom competence, so the program keeps its full competence setup.

Programs created from an LMS course now belong to your organisation

A program created by launching a course from Moodle or another LMS is now assigned to the organisation that owns the LMS connection. Existing programs affected by this have been assigned where the owner was unambiguous.

This makes those programs visible in the organisation's program lists, so admins can see them and program managers can duplicate them.

Copying a program now requires program-manager access

The Copy action on a program is now limited to its program managers. A copy contains every topic in the program, including ones outside your assigned groups, so group-assigned lecturers no longer see the Copy option.

If you need a copy of a program you teach in, ask one of its program managers.

Duplicate a program with the Rflect TA

You can ask the Rflect TA to copy the current program into a new one. You pick the new start date, and every topic is rescheduled relative to it, rounded to whole weeks so each topic keeps its weekday. The TA always shows an approval card before creating anything.

Useful for running the same course again next semester, or creating a translated copy without touching the original.

Send support requests straight from the Rflect TA

When the Rflect TA can't resolve something itself, it can now file a support request for you. It drafts the message with you in chat, sends it to the support team once you confirm, and emails you a copy of exactly what went out in your name.

No more copying a drafted message into your own mail client: the request arrives at support with the context the TA already had.

Disconnect an LMS course from a program

Program managers can now disconnect a connected LMS course in the program's Integrations settings. Each connected course has a Disconnect action with a confirmation step.

Disconnecting stops future roster syncs: students already imported stay in the program, and the sync history is kept. If a course was connected to the wrong program, you can now disconnect it and connect it to the right one.

Anonymous View for reviewing student work

You can now switch to Anonymous View from your profile menu. It hides student names, emails and photos everywhere in the app while keeping their reflections, goals, attachments and voice memos fully readable.

Use it to review work without seeing who wrote it, or to walk through a class in a meeting without exposing student identities. Your view mode is remembered, and you can switch back at any time.

The right view in every program, whatever your role there

If you are a lecturer in one program and enrolled as a student in another, each program now follows the role you actually hold in it. Your timeline and the assessment screens show the student view where you are a student, and the lecturer view where you are a lecturer.

Previously these screens went by your account type alone, so one of the two programs always showed you the wrong thing.

Stopping the Rflect TA keeps the conversation

Pressing Stop while the Rflect TA is working now ends its response and keeps everything already written, including your own message. Whatever the TA had produced stays in the conversation, marked as stopped, and you can pick up from there.

Before, stopping removed the whole exchange and pushed your prompt back into the composer, which could throw away several minutes of work.

Reorganise assessments without losing student work

You can now remove a stage of a Personal Learning Goals assessment – pre-assessment, check-in or post-assessment – while it is still scheduled, as long as it hasn't started yet. No need to unschedule it first; removing it takes it off the timeline as well.

At the same time, work students have already handed in is protected: a topic or assessment that has student answers can no longer be deleted, even if its start date was moved afterwards.

The effort rating now looks answer by answer

The Effort rating no longer averages a whole topic together. Every written answer is rated on its own, so one pasted answer between two carefully written ones stays visible instead of disappearing into the average. Scale questions and class-anonymous questions stay out of the breakdown – there is either no text to judge, or a per-question row next to a student's name would undo the anonymity.

Hover the rating in a topic to see the evidence behind it: a row per rated answer with how much was written and how long it took, plus a short hint where something stands out – may be pasted, very short, looks brief. Next to it you can see how many of the answers look genuine, for example 2/3.

Time spent now counts writing only: attaching a file no longer adds to the clock.

The Rflect TA can handle topic attachments

The TA can now see a topic's attachments, add a file from your conversation to a topic, and remove one again. Upload a document in the chat, ask the TA to attach it to a topic, and it will — after you approve the change.

Adding and deleting attachments always goes through an approval card, so nothing is attached or removed without your OK.

Word counts on every reflection

Reflection answers now show how many words they contain. Students see a live count while they write, and lecturers see it on each answer in the topic and student views — including private reflections, where the count appears without revealing the text.

It's a quick way to gauge how much a student actually wrote before opening every answer.

Filter a topic by several groups at once

In a topic's detail view you can now pick more than one group in the group filter and see all of their students together. Your selection is kept in the page address, so a filtered view stays put when you reload it or share the link.

Turn the weekly summary email off

Lecturers can now decide whether to receive the weekly summary email. The switch lives under Settings > Notifications: turn it off and the weekly email stops arriving, everything else stays as it is.

See what the Rflect TA looked at

Whenever the Rflect TA reads your data to answer you, its reply now carries a Sources button. Open it to see exactly which data the TA read on the way to that answer – which programs, topics, questions and answers it went through, and what came back – so you can check its work instead of taking it on trust.

Personal Learning Goals

Students can now rate their own confidence against each of your program's learning outcomes, set concrete learning goals and can revisit them in check ins throughout the semester - making their growth over time visible to them and to you. Read our instructions for full run-through.

Introducing the new effort score

There is now a traffic-light indicator in your Class Overview showing how much genuine effort each student has put into their reflections. This is based on active writing time, words written, completion rate and handing in on time, and a copy/paste flag. It gives lecturers a single, course-wide signal of engagement — a quick way to see who may need a nudge before checking individual topics. Learn more about our effort score.

The Rflect TA now points at what it changed

When the TA creates or changes something for you, it scrolls to that element on the page and highlights it briefly, so you can see the result of what you asked for instead of hunting for it.

The TA panel is also friendlier on smaller screens: the side navigation collapses on its own when the panel would squeeze the page too much, and comes back when you close it.

Report a problem without leaving Rflect

If something goes wrong, you can now tell us about it from inside the app. Lecturers have a Report a problem button, students have a Feedback entry point, and when a request fails you'll find Tell us what happened right in the error message.

Describe what you were doing and send it – it reaches the product team directly, together with the technical context we need to track the problem down.

A nudge to turn reflections into action

Students now get a short hint pointing them to Take Action – "turn this insight into one small next step" – shown before the existing Go Deeper hint. Once they have created an action, the button becomes View Action and the hint stops appearing for that reflection.

Copying a program is now part of Add Program

Duplicate Program is now Copy Program, and copying happens inside the normal Add Program flow: choose Copy from an existing program (optional) and everything from that program comes along. The new program is prefilled with the name of the original plus "(Copy)", so you can adjust it right away.

Copied activities now keep their timing relative to the program start instead of being pushed to today, so a copied program arrives with its schedule intact.

Quicker invitations, with more control

Inviting people to your program takes fewer steps now.

  1. Invite straight from the search box – if you look for a student or lecturer under Settings > Participants and there is no match, you can send an invitation to that email address right there.
  2. Invite a lecturer as Program Manager – tick Invite as program manager and they get program-management rights as soon as they sign up, so you don't have to promote them afterwards.
  3. Fast onboarding for invite links – shared invite links can now skip the student onboarding steps and take students straight into the class.

See progress and effort at a glance

Topic pages and your class overview now show progress visually. Every topic – reflection, peer coaching, learning goals and assessment – has a completion ring, so you can see how far your class has got without reading a table.

The separate effort columns in the overview have been replaced by a single graphical Effort rating. Hover over it to see the details behind it: time spent, words written, completion, and late hand-ins.

Voice memos count towards these numbers too – their transcripts are included in word counts, and the statistics update automatically when a transcript arrives a little later. The topic header also got a tidy-up, with the By Question / By Student switcher and the completion filter as compact controls at the top.

A clearer view of student work in topic review

Reviewing a topic just got easier. In the By Student view every student's answers are now open by default – no more clicking each row open – and the list keeps loading as you scroll.

You can also see at a glance where there is nothing to read: answers a student left blank now say Left empty by student, and answers a student chose to keep to themselves show as Private reflection (you still see their effort, like word count and time spent).

The filter is now a single panel where you can narrow by completion, by group, and by individual students. Your selection stays in the URL, so you can bookmark or share the exact view you are looking at.

Groups are now on for every program

Groups are now enabled for every program by default, so you can split your participants into subgroups whenever it's useful – no setup required.

To keep things uncluttered, the group controls stay hidden until you create your first group: programs that don't use groups get a cleaner, simpler view, and the full group tools (filtering your timeline, sending topics to specific groups, and managing participants by group) appear automatically as soon as you add a group under Settings > Groups.

New: Program Manager role

Managing a program and having access to its content are now two separate things, giving you clearer control when several lecturers work together.

  1. Program Managers run the program – they can edit settings, manage groups, invite lecturers, and promote or demote other Program Managers. Every program always has at least one.
  2. Lecturers with full access see all program content but don't manage the program.
  3. Group lecturers can now invite and manage other lecturers within their own groups.

What happens to your existing programs? Nothing changes in practice: every lecturer who already had full program access automatically becomes a Program Manager, so exactly the same people keep managing the program. You can promote or demote lecturers anytime under Settings > Participants.

Rflect TA now runs on a more powerful model

We've upgraded the Rflect TA to Claude Opus, Anthropic's most capable model. You should notice sharper, more reliable help across everything the TA does for you – coaching you through program design, executing tasks on your behalf, and analyzing your program data.

As always, any data you share is not used for training purposes or stored by the model provider. We'd love your feedback – send anything to support@rflect.ch.

Join Rflect Product Q&A 12th May @ 12pm CET

Wondering how to get the best out of new features like the Rflect TA, learning outcomes or voice memos? Get your questions answered directly by the team, and see new features in action at our next online Q&A. Block your calendar: 12th May 12-1pm CET. No need to sign up, join with this link.

Voice Memos are here

Now, alongside text-based and scaled questions, you can set reflection questions to be answered by “voice memo”.

Students will be asked to reflect out loud to your question, and Rflect will save their audio and transcript.

We recommend giving it a try - speaking aloud is just one of many effective ways to reflect, while adding variety and impact to the student reflection experience.

New Feature: Learning Outcome

Add Learning Outcomes to your program and clarify what you expect your students to learn through Rflect. Connect them to competences - for your students or simply for yourself.

Students can see those Learning Outcomes in their Statistics page unless they are switched off intentionally.

Improved: Add topic

The add topic button has moved to the top, next to your program name, so you can conveniently access it from any page you are currently on.

Pressing on this button will now bring you to a page where you can add all the features. This page also includes suggestions for next topics based on the learning outcomes, competences, and other info that you share in the settings tab.

Rflect TA

Introducing the Rflect AI Teaching Assistant

Who could imagine teaching and organising learning design (for large classes) without a TA? Well, you will never have to anymore 😃. Our TA is available 24/7 and ready to help you:

  1. Coach: The TA will take you through the process of setting and improving programs in Rflect. It has been trained on our knowledge base and all the support we have given you in-person so far.
  2. Execute: The TA can do things for you (it’s not just a chatbot!). It can create topics, change competences, schedule,... It’s prompted to propose such activities, and you can always ask it do things for you.
  3. Analyze Data: So far we had the ‘AI Summary’ - now you can ask the TA anything you’d like to about content that is already in Rflect.

Here is a little glimpse of how it works: https://www.loom.com/share/058b4b710361408faa0f3b769455b3ce

Since the TA is new, please send us any feedback, errors (with screenshots) to support@rflect.ch and we’ll pick it up!

Any data shared is not used for training purposes or stored by the model provider.

New place for invitations and program participants and groups management

We have cleaned up a bit the view where you see student statistics by moving the participant management and invitations to Settings area.

Now, in the Settings area there are two sub pages: Participants and Groups where you can manage the invitations and the program participation of the students and lecturers as well as their assignment to groups.

Lecturers are now assigned to the groups in the Groups page alongside with students. Old lecturer page was removed.

Notification Settings

Students can now manage their notifications and decide for which event they want to receive emails and or push notifications via the app.

To find the notification settings they have to go to their "profile" [small icon on the top right]
> "settings" [small cogwheel next to program]
> notifications

Competences will play a bigger role in the future

We have rolled out the first step to make competence development explicit and relevant for students.

For now it only changes how you select competences in the assessment.

Click on the link for a short video with more info.

The Rflect App is here

We have released our student app. 🎉 It is now available on both the Apple App Store and Google Playstore.

With the app students can receive notifications about new topics and deadlines directly on their phone. In the future there will also be a notification center, where they can disable email notifications, get reminders for actions, etc.

Students got a pop-up informing them about the app, but it would be awesome if you could also mention it to them in your next interaction.

Groups are available for all programs now

Groups allows the lecturer to split existing program participants in multiple groups. This can be helpful if you would like to

  1. send different topics to different subgroups of students - for example when students take different courses and foci as a program progresses, or when you have student teams working on different challenges
  2. manage participants - when a program is managed by multiple lecturers who are responsible for subgroups of students
  3. structure your timeline - when your program has multiple phases and you want to clearly distinguish them

Find an instruction on how to enable it for your program here: https://oxidized-cannon-834.notion.site/Groups-28e38bfa37ba80d79b02ebca32aa7846?source=copy_link

Invite your students to Rflect program through a QR code

We have simplified the way to invite students to Rflect programs. Now, beside already existing possibility to just share a link, you have possibility to share a QR code with your students and let them easily join the program.

Welcome to the Rflect Product Updates!
